Greetings!
Today, we explore who we are outside the human systems that shaped us.
We start with the image of humans living in a “zoo,” surrounded by rules and beliefs that can feel like our own voice but were often learned.
As we talk, this image opens into questions about what happens when those structures disappear, when the roles and the stories that organized our lives no longer tell us where to go.
What is left when we are not a role, not a name, not the expectations that tell us what a “well-lived life” looks like?
Yulia
“We humans also kind of live in a zoo. But do we really know what we need and what’s important to us?”
“The question of who we are beyond social roles always brings me to the mirror—when I really look into my own eyes, I meet something alien, not of this world.”
“When I connected deeply to nature, it was as if the removal of all the social rules created a clearing and more access to my ancient self.”
Irina
“We are animals—and we are social animals. The biology and the social nature are part of the same soup.”
“Even if you remove yourself from society, you’re still interacting with something that shapes you.”
“The conditioning is inevitable. You leave the city, and you’re conditioned by the forest, by the environment.”
Polina
“Removing myself from all the zoos—the work zoo, the family zoo, the New York zoo—was the first time I began to integrate who I actually am.”
“I think the way we navigate it is through awareness and choice—owning what’s emerging, and deciding which part of me I want to give voice to.”
“I have the right to change my mind, to be different in the next season of life. That’s part of the evolution.”
Who are YOU beyond all the social roles that first come to mind?”
Thanks for being here. Till next time!
Let it flow,
Polina, Irina, and Yulya
